Common Core Program for schools a threat to educational system – CCT-Ghana

As a student and advocate for quality education, I have been closely following the implementation of the Common Core program in Ghana's schools. I am saddened to say that, in my opinion, the Common Core program is not only a threat to the educational system in Ghana, but also a threat to the future of Ghanaian children.

The Common Core program was developed in the United States with the goal of providing a standardized education across all states. However, the program has faced a lot of criticism and backlash in the US, with some states even opting out of the program entirely. Despite these criticisms, the program is being introduced into the Ghanaian educational system.

One of the major concerns with the Common Core program is the emphasis on standardized testing. This places a heavy burden on students, teachers, and the entire educational system. Instead of allowing teachers to be creative in their lesson plans and teaching methods, they are forced to conform to a standardized curriculum that does not necessarily reflect the needs and abilities of individual students.

Another issue is the lack of flexibility within the program. The Common Core program does not take into account the different cultural, social, and economic factors that affect the education of Ghanaian children. This leads to a "one size fits all" approach that does not work in a country as diverse as Ghana.

In addition, the introduction of the Common Core program comes at a time when the Ghanaian educational system is already facing many challenges, including lack of resources, poor infrastructure, and low teacher morale. Rather than addressing these issues, the government has chosen to implement a program that may only add to these problems.

It is important for us, as students, teachers, and concerned citizens, to voice our opinions and stand up for quality education in Ghana. We must demand that the government take a more holistic approach to education, one that considers the needs of our children and the challenges faced by our educational system. We cannot let the Common Core program threaten the future of our children and the educational system in Ghana.
